I am seriously considering making a trip out to NYC this summer to see the Alexander McQueen retrospective, "Savage Beauty"

If it were any other artist but McQueen, I would call me crazy. But as he was one of the most revolutionary designers of our time, and I personally felt a deep affinity for the dark, elegant, poetic beauty of his work, and he's no longer with us, I'd say this trip would be justified. I can't pass up this chance to see so many groundbreaking, heartbreaking works in person, and all in one place!

Outfitting: Oodles of Poodles

Ever since Miu Miu came out with their fanciful cat prints in Fall '09 (and various bloggers started sporting those pointy collars), I've been seeing tiny animal prints all over. On ModCloth alone we have this blouse, at least two pieces with miniature stallions all over them, a bug shirt, a cat top, and even a dress with red bananas on it. Well, the red bananas aren't really a part of the trend, but just thought I'd throw those in there.

I loved this blouse as soon as I put it on. Silky-feeling (though made of polyester), super easy to wear and pair with pretty much anything. I love the blouse-y little details like the ruching on the sleeves and the bow-tie in the back. Paired it with a prim navy skirt and my absolute favorite gold flats from Diba.

Outfitting: In the swing of things

I tried to be very good and went a good few weeks without making another ModCloth order. But I broke down recently and got a couple coats I'd been coveting, as well as some odds and ends. Put together this outfit for an easygoing weekend.

Outfitting: Mixing neutrals

Catching up with today's outfit and Friday's outfit. Firstly, a sweater dress:

This dress is so weird. I think it's suppose to be off-the-shoulder because one whole side of the dress is shorter than the other. It's quite roomy on the top and fitted around the hips. I own another dress like this, but I might like the other one better; this one is a bit too fussy, though the material is nice and cozy-soft. One of the few days I am totally ModClothed-out.

And next, a Friday outfit that layers ruffles upon ruffles:

Maybe it was ruffle overkill, and the outfit was rather fussy also, but I think the overall effect was interesting. I really like this new cardigan I got the tiered ruffles are really sweet and the color is neutral enough to pair with so many things. Someone commented that the blackness of the boot was too heavy for the airiness of the top, but I beg to differ.

Outfitting: Shoulder pads

I haven't worn this blazer outside in almost ten years, and I'm pretty sure the last time I wore it was for an internship interview for Los Angeles Magazine. The guy who interviewed me, some cocky editor, was kind of a butt-face and sauntered out in jeans and generally made me feel really lame for wearing a skirt suit. I mean it was lame of me to wear a skirt suit, but he could have been a little nicer about it.

I'm surprised the blazer looks decent when worn open like this; not nearly as stuffy as when I button it up. The rhinestone necklace I also haven't worn in forever, though I spent a laborious eight hours searching for it on eBay. I guess when I want something specific, I stop at nothing to find it.

Outfitting: Check, please

Damn I love these shoes - comfortable, sassy, and goes with everything. I also love the combination of this bolero with this tunic/dress. The tunic was one of those wonderfully rare scores at Old Navy - rather plain an neutral but beautifully versatile. It's got a great swingy comfort that makes you feel confident all day. I'm sure you'll see it in many other iterations on this here blog. And the tights, a heavy argyle knit, keeps me warm on a chilly San Francisco day.

  • Dress/tunic from Old Navy
  • Houndstooth bolero from Forever 21 from a few years ago
  • Argyle tights from from Forever 21
  • Fluevog 'Aquarius' heels
  • My own little combination of random heart pendants

Outfitting: Reflections...from Wednesday

It took me so long to figure out how to wear this darn top from J.Crew. I bought it because I fell in love with the ruffles and pintucks, and because it was made of silk, and because this color was on sale for half the price of the normal colors (blue, black, etc.). And so it sat in my closet for probably two years, and I tried to get rid of it a few times, but had no takers.

I knew I had to pair it with either gray or other stark neutral, and finally decide to try it tucked into a skirt. Lo and behold, it worked pretty well, sort of like an updated take on Park Avenue 'princess' style. Got lots of comments on it!

  • J.Crew victorian ruffled blouse
  • 'Orion's Belt' from ModCloth
  • Black and white skirt form H&M
  • Corso Como boots
  • Silver necklace bought from Silk Market in Beijing

Outfitting: Noodle house

This dress is the fussiest thing. It's only got one and a half layers... as in, the inner layer only goes halfway down my back, so the lower half is super thin and in dire need of a slip, or a pair of leggings. It also doesn't fit super well, but I forgive it all these trespasses because the print is just so, so gorgeous. It's made out of a vintage sari:

I got the dress for like $10 at the Echo Lake annual Lotus Festival. Some other girl was trying it on and I spied it and coveted it immediately. I couldn't believe she actually put it down, but I didn't ask too many questions before I pounced on it. I especially love the gold embroidery at the bodice.

Ducked into King of Noodle in the Inner Sunset for a very hearty, warm and satisfying dinner of boiled dumplings and Shandong-style hand-pulled noodles.

Outfitting: Through rose-colored stockings

No story here, I just scored this dress during the ModCloth Last Hurrah Sale and I love it - it fits perfectly. That's all. And I'm a little on the fence about the tights. Does it look like I have some kind of disorder that turns my legs red? I hope not.
