Hot or Not? Ombre Nails

I think it was Glamour where I first saw this, and I felt so instantly conflicted that it could only mean one thing: another Hot or Not post!

So this nail trend involves starting with a base color, then mixing in varying degrees of white or black nail polish, to get an ombre look that fades from dark to light.  When it comes to nail polish, I generally have the same outlook as I do towards my tacos: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid).  Why let a good thing get out of hand (ha, ha)?

Then again, I can't deny that it's kind of pretty.  Definitely classier than multi-colored nails and scary add-ons. But what do you think?  Gimmicky?  Smacking of tacky?  I can't decide.

P.S. I'm actually pretty impressed/intrigued by the nails in the third picture (above).  I'm sure that takes a lot more patience/nail painting skill than I have.

I'm sorry, having multi-coloured nail polish on every nail is NOT HOT. Looks like they got into a fight with their esthetician.
Haha I guess I think if it's subtle enough it can work =)  But different colors is definitely NOT OKAY!
I love the third photo nails the best. Very well executed. It's not something I'd try at home but I'd certainly let a professional try it on me in nudes.
Interesting, in nudes... I guess I will consider asking the technician to do it next time I get my nails done... which should be sometime in the next five years =)
I love the third as well. Gradual change in color creates a subtle yet dramatic look.
@marezone Agreed - it just looks like it takes a lot of effort and should best be left to a professional!
I love this trend but am skeptical about trying it. I love the second pic but it's a a little out there wearing different color nails is definetly attention seeking. I don't know I guess I'll try it. They sell a kit for ombré nails at sephora and I'm dying to get it.
